Doing the work is one thing. Leading people is another.

I help capable managers become trusted leaders.

Clear about what matters. Honest in what they say. Consistent in what they do. Willing to make hard decisions and able to hold people accountable with respect.

THE CORE IDEA

Change the story. Change the leader.

People don’t always act on what they know. They act on what they believe.

Every leader works from a story about themselves and their role. That story shapes what they believe, how they lead and, in the end, how they perform.

If I don’t do it myself, it won’t be done properly. You take over. People don’t feel trusted. They stop taking ownership and don’t grow.
If I challenge them, I’ll damage the relationship. You put off the conversation. Poor performance continues, frustration builds and the problem gets bigger.
I must get it right before I act.You keep thinking and checking. Decisions wait, people lack direction and work stands still.

Work on the behaviour alone, and it holds until the pressure arrives. Work on the story, and the behaviour follows.

Change the story, and leadership changes. Change leadership, and performance follows.

The change needs to show up in the work.

We work from the inside out: clear on the problem, honest about the story behind it, practical about what changes.

  1. 01

Get clear on the real problem.

Together, we identify the real challenge: what’s happening, what it’s costing and what needs to change.

    Challenges leaders often bring

“He keeps doing his team’s work.”No ownership. No time to lead. It all comes back to him.
“He knows the job, but damages trust.”Defensive with feedback. People go quiet. Fallout follows.
“He overthinks every decision.”Keeps checking. The team waits. Delivery slips.
  2. 02

    Understand the story behind it.

We look at what the person believes about themselves, their role and others. That’s where the pattern starts, and why it holds under pressure.

    Questions we explore

What if I stop doing it myself? What am I protecting? What if I get it wrong?
  3. 03

    Practise in the real work.

Insight becomes practical tools: how to hand work back, listen before reacting and make a decision that sticks. Then they’re tested in the work.

    What gets tested

Hand work back. Hold them to it.Listen first. Then respond.Make the call. Stand by it.
  4. 04

See the change in how others experience it.

We review, adjust and practise again. Where agreed, we hear from the people around the leader. The real test is how others experience them.

    What people notice

“The team owns its work”“No more fallout to clean up”“Decisions made, and they stick”

Insight matters. Visible change matters more.

The aim is clearer decisions, stronger ownership and people who can rely on one another.

Hi, I’m Burger.

For more than 35 years, I’ve led teams, run businesses and worked alongside leaders facing difficult decisions. I know the pressure of being accountable for results while helping people grow.

My experience spans senior corporate roles, work across Africa and hands-on support for business owners and their teams. Along the way, my own life has made me stop and ask: what really matters?

WHAT MATTERS TO YOU · 6 MINAsk yourself the same question

That question is at the heart of my work.

I’m interested in the person behind the role: what they care about, what they believe and what keeps getting in their way. I listen carefully, challenge honestly and help them turn understanding into practical action.

What matters to me is seeing people grow into responsibility, with the confidence to make decisions, the humility to listen and the courage to have the conversations that matter.

We can be honest about what needs to change and still treat people with dignity.
